ABOUT the band
Underdog Exile were founded “by accident” as a side project of Nico McBrain and BenVermin in summer of 2013. By the end of the year they knew that this would not, could not, stay a project on the side. So Ronny Quirchmayer was recruited as a bass player at the beginning of the year and The Malice completed us as a band shortly after.
The following years were filled with our first gigs, great weekends working together on songs in the town of bunnies, and our shared love for music. Some years later, however, we had to bid farewell to both The Malice and Ronny with a heavy heart.
From 2016 until 2023, Yvonne Gundacker took the spot of our frontwoman, while Till Weigert was our guy on the deep strings. The amazing skills and talents of both are exemplified on our first EP “The Detachment”. Listen to it on Youtube or Spotify.
During the turn of the year towards 2024, we found an amazing new bass player in Metal Surfer and The Malice was happily welcomed back into the group. The new material was ready to be forged, and together we started the recordings for our second EP in November 2024 😊
Nico McBrain - Drums
This guy is not only French by birth, but also the heart that pumps the rhythm through the machine that is Underdog Exile and brings it to life. From Down to Frank Zappa, Nico covers a very broad variety of styles. Once this machine is warmed up, he is smoothly keeping the band on track like a steam train.
The Malice - Vocals
The name is the game. The Malice is definitely not one to be trifled with! Like the wind, her voice can be calm and gentle the one second and then evolve into a hurricane the next. The range of emotion and tone that she puts into music makes a good song sound GREAT, be it Led Zeppelin or Pantera.
BenVermin - Guitars
Like any other guitarist worth his salt, Ben is guilty of the Sacred Trinity of guitarist lies:
1) I can’t hear myself, 2) Nah, I don’t think I need to re-tune - it’s gonna be fine, trust me! and 3) I PROMISE, I WON’T play another solo. Although he’s usually tilting towards the more extreme sides of Metal, he is a total sucker for Hairspray Metal and Glam Rock ❤️🤘
