Underdog Exile is a progressive rock and metal band from Vienna, Austria. Our influences range from The Winery Dogs, Richie Kotzen down to Lynyrd Skynyrd, Pantera, Dream Theater, AC/DC and Motörhead.
With the motto “Genre was Yesterday” we move between classic and modern sounds and utilize everything between Rock, Metal, and Progressive as ingredient to weave into our sound tapestry. We are inspired by the highs and lows of life and believe that especially the topics that are thought to be “negative” can be not only the most interesting but also therapeutic - not only for us playing them, but also for the listener.
After all, our time is not only spent working or partying, but the moments in between and outside of that in our lives also deserve their very own soundtrack.
EP - REFORGED (2026)
With our original singer The Malice back on board, the EP title as well as the title track hold a lot of meaning for us.
Drawing inspiration from the Japanese art of kintsugi, embracing imperfection, as well as our very own band history, Reforged tells a story about the importance of our experiences, the fleeting nature of time, excitement and love for the moments we spend in reminiscence.
Planned to be available early-2026 on Spotify, YouTube Music, Apple Music, or wherever else you get your music from online (probably again with the exception of Snapchat ^^).

EP - THE DETACHMENT (2022)
Containing four songs, our first ever EP spots not only the title track, but also the very song that CREATED the band.
Southern rock, being a bit too heavy for the band Nico McBrain and BenVermin used to play together before, prompted the duo to work on it together outside of the main group. The track was completed after only one jam session and Underdog Exile was born. From dusty southern riffs to progressive melodies, these four songs pack a punch and tell the story of the slow detachment between two people, feeling invisible as well as resilience and overcoming of fears.

“Southern Rock”, sounds like a classic Alternative Punk Rock, well enhanced by a strong voice , something decidedly original, engaging and overwhelming, a proposal that can be listened to with extreme ease and naturalness.
A dynamic trend where technic and body blend together thanks to a good glue made of refined sounds well adapted to the musical context that embellish the listening. A listening that reveals good technical and compositional skills, and that demonstrates how Underdog Exile knows how to move with familiarity in their musical environment.
“Southern Rock”, lays the foundations on really spot on metrics and riffs, managing to dose a mass of sounds that give concreteness, and a sound mature enough to get noticed and appreciated.
